Northern Peru is one of the most interesting regions for people who enjoy birdwatching. In Lambayeque, the natural surroundings of Bosque de Pómac offer an ideal landscape for observing birds in one of the country’s most unique ecosystems: the equatorial dry forest.
Our ecolodge is located in the buffer zone of this natural sanctuary, surrounded by agricultural fields, carob forests (algarrobo trees), and open landscapes that form part of the natural corridor for many bird species.
A Paradise for Birdwatchers
Bosque de Pómac hosts a great diversity of birds typical of the dry forest ecosystem. In this area, around 89 bird species have been recorded, including several species endemic to the Tumbesian region, making it an attractive destination for both national and international birdwatchers.
Among the species that can be observed in the area are birds such as the Peruvian Plantcutter, the Tumbes Swallow, the Peruvian Thick-knee, the Lineated Woodpecker, the White Ibis, and the Amazilia Hummingbird, all adapted to the dry forest ecosystem dominated by algarrobo trees.
A Strategic Stop on Birdwatching Routes
Beyond its biodiversity, the location of the ecolodge makes it an excellent resting point for travelers exploring nature routes in northern Peru.
Many birdwatchers follow routes that connect the northern coast with highly biodiverse destinations in the northeastern part of the country, including the route toward Chachapoyas, a gateway to Amazonian and mountain ecosystems with remarkable bird diversity.
In this context, the ecolodge works as an ideal stop to rest, observe birds in the surrounding areas, and continue the journey toward other destinations in northern Peru.
Birdwatching in a Peaceful Environment
One of the greatest attractions of birdwatching in this area is the tranquility of the landscape. The early hours of the morning are usually the perfect time to observe birds as the dry forest slowly awakens.
From the ecolodge, visitors can enjoy:
-
Walking through the surrounding natural landscapes
-
Birdwatching among the algarrobo forests
-
Nature photography
-
Excursions to Bosque de Pómac
